Paper Lantern Workshop
About
Paper Lantern Workshop Discover the magic of paper cutting In this one-day workshop making your own paper lantern. Participants will learn paper cutting design and knife technique, and create a unique, illuminated piece of art. After exploring examples of paper cutting artists and their work, students will dream up their own paper lantern designs to execute with guidance and instruction. Learn how to translate your ideas into a cut paper composition, then how to cut out your composition with minimized frustration. Finally, we will assemble our lanterns and illuminate them to bask in the glow of your efforts. This class will cover: proper knife handling, foundational paper cutting skills, and the basics of paper cutting design. This class is suitable for artists of all skill levels. Ages 18+. All materials included, including an electric votive to illuminate your paper lantern safely. Safety Note: Participants must have strong enough fine motor abilities to handle a sharp blade safely. About the Instructor: Hannah Day is a local artist working primarily in the paper arts. She received her MFA in printmaking from University of Hawaii at Manoa before returning to Sonoma County, where she now teaches watercolor, drawing, and paper cutting. Day's etchings have been internationally shown and collected, but her current personal practice is focused in graphite and watercolor.
