Nature Journaling: Beyond Beginner
About
Nature Journaling Beyond Beginner: Tips, Techniques and Watercolor This structured workshop with Nature Journal Instructor and California Naturalist Sarah Reid is designed for participants ready to deepen their nature journaling practice. You’ll learn additional techniques for documenting observations in your journal—what we like to call building your “pencil miles.” The class will include guided practice with quick sketching, blind contour drawing, simple mapping, and an introduction to working with watercolors. If you’ve dabbled in nature journaling or previously attended a beginner-level workshop, this class is a great next step. Participants are invited to bring their own journal or plain paper, along with a pencil and/or black ballpoint pen. Beginner journals along with a pen and pencil for sketching will be provided to those who don't have them, along with a watercolor palette and water brush. (You’re also welcome to bring additional art tools you enjoy using, such as colored pencils, watercolor pencils, or watercolor paints.) We’ll spend time walking and journaling in the gardens, so please wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers appropriate for the weather. About the Instructor: Sarah Reid is a Sonoma County-based naturalist, educator and nature journal instructor. Guided by a belief that people protect what they know and love, Sarah is dedicated to helping others slow down, observe closely, and build meaningful connections with nature. She is a self-taught nature journaler who enjoys making this activity approachable to those who feel they cannot draw. Saturday, October 24, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. $17 for members, $32 for non-members | Includes Garden admission. Please check in at the Welcome Center.
