The Rotary Club of Alameda is one of more than 45,000 Rotary clubs across 200 countries, all sharing a commitment to creating meaningful change in communities around the world, starting locally. Since its founding in 1920, the Rotary Club of Alameda has served both Alameda and communities beyond it through service, fellowship and hands-on projects. Alameda is fortunate for many reasons, and one of them is the wonderful Jean Sweeney Park. Our community has this park thanks in large part to the impressive efforts of Jean Sweeney, a member of the Rotary Club of Alameda and an active community volunteer. Through years of persistence, she advocated for transforming what had become an undeveloped railroad property into public open space. Her efforts helped make possible the park that now bears her name. Following her example and commitment to making the park a reality, Rotary partnered with the City to create the community gathering space within Jean Sweeney Park, now known as the **Rotary Pavilion**. If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, meet engaged community members, and help strengthen Alameda, we’d love to meet you. To that end, we are hosting **A Picnic in the Park** on **Saturday, September 26, from noon to 4 p.m.** at the Alameda Rotary Pavilion in Jean Sweeney Park, 925 Sherman Street.
