Rage Baiting and Border Crossing: How AI/LLMs Complicate Translation

Tuesday, November 3 · 4 PM – 5:30 PM · MLK Library · San Jose

About

Rage bait prompts audience engagement by provoking anger. Torsa Ghosal's talk compares “rage bait” narratives about border crossing generated by Large Language Models (LLMs) in two different languages: English and Bengali. Because LLMs are incapable of registering the cultural codes embedded in language, their mis-translations create problems, especially for non-English languages. Join us to discover how the spread of LLMs is impacting translation, migration narratives, and the preservation of world languages. The event will be live in MLK Library on the SJSU campus AND livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/6290019. Sponsored by the Advanced Institute for Ethical Technologies, College of Humanities & the Arts
