During Banned Books Week, we celebrate the freedom to read, a freedom being challenged across the country. Join two long-time Bay Area educators as they share experiences and stories of teachers under pressure during this time of heightened culture wars. They'll describe how debates about race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and book bans impact instruction, students, and teachers. Presenters: Sue Granzella taught in public elementary schools for 32 years in San Lorenzo and Oakland. Her writing has won numerous awards, and her new book is entitled Pushed to the Edge: Teachers' Stories from the Culture Wars . Betsy Snow is a library media specialist in the Bay Area, starting in this role after 19 years as a classroom teacher of English, digital photo, photography, and journalism. She loves how storytelling is at the heart of all of those disciplines.
