Victorian Women: Mistresses of Illusion and Thrift

Saturday, October 24 · 1 PM – 3 PM · Alameda Museum, Alameda, CA

About

**Ever wonder what Victorian women were really hiding under all that lace?** **October 23 through November 7** — explore an intimate collection of women’s garments and accessories, on view during all regular museum hours. **Friday afternoons from 1 to 3 PM**, our docent Anat will be your guide through the secrets, illusions, and clever engineering behind that perfect 1890s silhouette. Expect a walkthrough with a hands-on encounter with the clothing itself! An artist, jeweler, and self-professed devotee of the macabre, strange, and unusual, Anat has spent a LOT of time hand sewing, learning to construct the wonderfully architectural garments of the late 19th century. Along the way, she’s gleaned a delicious truth: we have far more in common with these often-misunderstood women than we think.
