Preservation Tours: Lost Buildings of Alexandria-Urban Renewal (North Side of King)
About
Carlyle House hosts a special tour of "Lost Alexandria," exploring the impact of urban renewal projects. Beginning in the 1950s, government and private initiatives sought to address urban decay, upgrade infrastructure, and revitalize city neighborhoods. In the 1960s, the Gadsby Commercial Urban Renewal Project led to significant changes, including the demolition of portions of the 300-500 blocks of King Street in Alexandria.
