Using color, letters, and shapes, Patricia Guthrie's abstract quilts carry political messages about government, international relations, and global warming, made from cotton fabric, wool batting, dyes, and machine stitching. A former professor and chair at Cal State East Bay, Guthrie turned to quilt making in retirement, hoping her work moves viewers beyond visual pleasure toward deeper meaning. This is her second solo show at Mercury 20 Gallery.
