Leandra Bautista will look closely at three works of art that evoke home as a space of either comfort or discomfort. — On this tour, Leandra Bautista ’28 will look closely at three works of art that evoke home as a space of either comfort or discomfort. The stops on the tour are Woman on a Striped Sofa with a Dog (1876) by Mary Cassatt; a 12th-century Italian casket in the shape of a tower ; and Robert Smullyan Sloan’s 1945 painting of a Black soldier . Spotlight Tours are designed and led by Harvard undergraduates from a range of academic disciplines. Each tour is focused on objects chosen by the student and provides visitors a unique, thematic view into the collections. Tours typically feature three works of art, embrace a conversational format, and last about 45 minutes. Open to the public, these tours start outside the museum shop on Saturdays and Sundays at 11am and 2pm. This program is supported by the Ho Family Student Guide Fund. The Ho Family Student Guide Program at the Harvard Art Museums prepares students to develop original, research-based tours. Through their training, Student Guides gain knowledge of the collections and develop skills in critical thinking, visual analysis, public speaking, and leadership.
