Painting Diwali Diyas
About
Diyas [De-ah] are a form of clay lanterns used across India, not only to light our religious altars but to light our homes and public spaces during Diwali- the Festival of Lights. These lights indicate that good prevails over evil and that a period of peace is coming. Workshop participants will receive a brief history lesson on what Diwali is, the story behind it, and how it is celebrated across the Indian diaspora (in India and around the world). Afterward, participants will be guided on different ways to paint their Diyas and shown how to light them at home. Due to high demand, we ask that community members sign up for a single occurrence of this series so that as many community members as possible can participate in this experience. Registration is required to attend.
