Painter’s Space: Paint a Sampaguita for Filipino-American History Month
About
Passes will be handed out 15 minutes before program. First come, first served to the first 20 members. Ages 9 and up due to the difficulty of the painting. In this guided painting session we will feature Painter’s Space as they will introduce participants to the sampaguita (sahm-pah-GHEE-tah), or Jasminum sambac, the Philippines’ national flower, and its cultural meanings of purity, fidelity, and hope. Participants will learn simple techniques to capture the flower’s delicate white blooms and fragrant presence on canvas or paper, while connecting with Filipino heritage through art! Library staff may take photos, videos, or audio recordings at our events. Please tell us if you do not wish to be photographed, video-recorded, or audio-recorded. We will always respect your requests! An ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter or closed captioning can be provided for this program if requested at least seven (7) days in advance. For assistance, please contact your library or accessibility@aclibrary.org .
