An acclaimed weekly lecture series brings in artists, designers, and critical theorists from around the world, broadening the students’ experiential base and complementing local offerings. All lectures and exhibitions are open to the general public free of charge. Unless otherwise indicated, all events are in person on Tuesday evenings from 5-6pm, SJSU Art Building #133. Ginger Shulick Porcella: The Role of Museums in the Age of AI Now more than ever, audiences are seeking authentic experiences and a sense of community and belonging in our increasingly digital world. Museums as informal sites of learning are uniquely positioned to address this need. From presenting awe-inspiring exhibitions and programming, to providing opportunities to engage in visual literacy in our era of fake news, museums fill a critical role—despite the overall decrease in federal, state, and local funding. How can museums navigate this ever-changing world, continue to do more with less, and fulfill their missions in new and unexpected ways? Ginger Shulick Porcella is a visionary arts leader, curator, and nonprofit executive. Currently serving as the Executive Director of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (the MAH), Porcella oversees exhibitions, community programs, and the museum’s broader mission of connecting art, history, and local communities.
