Crown Seminar: Yazidis on the Margins of Humanity: Internally Displaced in Iraqi Kurdistan
About
What happens when people survive war but cannot safely return home? More than a decade after ISIS attacked Sinjar, over 200,000 Yazidis remain displaced. Their experience is part of the longer history of war and political upheaval that reshaped Iraq after the U.S. invasion in 2003. In our third fall event on the long-term consequences of 9/11, Houman Oliaei, in conversation with Kerem Uşşaklı, draws from his new book, "Yazidis on the Margins of Humanity: Internally Displaced in Iraqi Kurdistan," to explore what it means to remain displaced within the borders of a state transformed by war. Houman Oliaei is an assistant professor of anthropology at Babson College. Kerem Uşşaklı is a junior research fellow at the Crown Center.
