About

Registration is recommended. Walk-ins are also welcome. Join Omid Jahan, founder of the Afghan Cassette Archive (@afghancassettearchive), for a multimedia listening session exploring Afghanistan’s rich musical history through rare cassette recordings, archival materials, and personal stories. The program will highlight Afghan music from different eras and communities, including recordings preserved from Afghanistan and the Afghan diaspora. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear selections from the archive, learn about the stories behind the music and artists, and view original cassette tapes and other archival materials. The session offers a unique look at Afghan history, culture, migration, and memory through the music that has traveled across generations. This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Mountain View Library.
