Discover the joy of creating with Hands-On History! In this dynamic program, kids will dive into the skills and crafts of the past as they explore a variety of traditional hands-on activities. From wood carving and leather working to paper making, basket weaving and more, each session offers a new opportunity for young crafters to learn, create and connect with history in a tangible way. Guided by engaging instructors, participants will gain confidence as they work with real tools and materials – experiencing firsthand how everyday items were crafted long before modern technology. Each session brings a fresh project and a chance to explore a different historical technique. Join us on a journey into the fascinating history behind one of Halloween’s most beloved traditions! Students will discover where the tradition of carving pumpkins came from, and how people celebrated the harvest season in the past, and the surprising history of jack-o’-lanterns. Then it’s time to get creative as students roll up their sleeves and carve their very own pumpkins, using inspiration from traditional designs as well as their own imaginations. With history, storytelling, and plenty of hands-on fun, this program brings the traditions of the past to life—one pumpkin at a time! This is a drop-off program, but parents are welcome to hang around the Farm Park during the class. Please remember to bring water and dress for the activity – some may get messy!
