While claiming the goal is “efficiency”, this administration is gutting our nation’s essential civilian services and the regulators who stand in its way. Synopsis Our democracy is only as strong as the institutions that serve the people. Almost immediately after the Trump administration took office in 2025, federal agencies have been stripped of personnel and resources, or mercilessly targeted for elimination. This systematic dismantling is the main directive of DOGE, or the Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE has also turned its sites on erasing The social programs that tens of millions of Americans rely on every day. This is the greatest institutional heist perpetrated against the American people. HEIST introduces the audience to critical government functions and chronicles how the largest federal agencies like the USAID, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the National Institutes of Health, and Department of Education have been damaged. HEIST explores four themes: a brief history of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s vision of a modern America and his administration’s creation of ‘New Deal’ federal agencies; the personal perspectives of federal workers as they fight to keep their jobs; how Americans are being targeted through proposed extreme cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security; and finally, who really benefits from DOGE’s actions.
