Get into the art-making spirit in October at Open Studio. Get inspired by Max Ernst and make your own artwork of the night sky! — Get into the art-making spirit in October at Open Studio! Each week we’ll get inspired by a different artwork on view from artists such as Aliza Nisenbaum, Pablo Picasso, Joan Mitchell, and more! Join us this week as we get inspired by the artist, Max Ernst and his artwork, Beauty of the Night . Ernst developed a technique called grattage–where you scrape wet paint off the canvas. Inspired by his artistic practice, we will use paint sticks, scratch paper and glitter to make our own versions of the night sky. Meet in Art School on the Museum’s Lower Level. Drop in to explore modern and contemporary art through interactive hands-on activities inspired by the Hirshhorn collection and artworks on view. Open Studio helps you transform your ideas into reality. Every session introduces a new theme and a fresh perspective on art-making. Activities are designed to captivate everyone—from budding young artists to seasoned creators—and allow them to craft, create, and learn. No reservations or tickets are required. Stroller parking is available in the Hirshhorn Lobby and on the Lower Level. If there are services or accommodations that can improve your experience (e.g., ASL interpretation, live captioning, etc.), please contact HMSGEducation@si.edu.
