Jekyll and Hyde Revisited: Jekyll’s Disintegration
About
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a well-known tale of a good man going bad. People know the concept of ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ as a catchphrase for a double life, and generally see it as a shocking horror story. We deepen this understanding, taking the tale as a meditation that challenges us to think about morality and personal happiness as well as the normal psychological processes that unleash the human impulse toward cruelty. Jim Gould and Ted Hazelgrove team taught classes in Ethics and Literature at McHenry County College, Crystal Lake, for 20 years. They have published on Jekyll and Hyde, and have presented community programs like this for several years.
