STEM: Archimedes Screw Model
About
Screws are one of the simple machines that we use every day: they are used as hardware for building, but additionally, bottle caps, doorknobs, and standard light bulbs are also examples of screws. In this activity, patrons will create models of screws with different distances (ptich) between the inclined planes or ramps (threads) to find out which one will move a marble across a certain distance with less turns. Program is recommended for patrons 8-12. No registration required; first-come, first-served; capacities limited. At 3 p.m. we will distribute ten tickets; only participating children need a ticket.
