Learn How to Build an Owl Box
About
Presentation at 2 pm; Doors open at 1:30 pm Please join the Woodside Environment & Open Space Committee’s Autumn Event on how to keep Woodside Pesticide Free by learning more about how to build an Owl Box! Adult barn owls typically consume 3 to 4 rodents per night (such as mice, voles or small rats) although some species or brooding parents can catch up to 10 to 12 rodents per night when feeding chicks! About the speaker: Our guest speaker for this event is John Gallagher. John has built many owl boxes over the past several years for his own property as well as for neighbors. He is a long-time member of the Board of Directors of Save Mount Diablo, the land trust that works to conserve land around Mount Diablo and the rest of the Diablo Range. John manages some of the camera traps on land trust properties and has thousands of photos of local wildlife. John will share his experience of how he built the owl box, with step-by-step instructions, and enhanced with photos of owls and owlets. All of the photos in his presentation were gathered on his property on the west side of Danville. Pesticide Free Woodside: Come and join us to learn more on how to encourage owls to nest in your yard so you can avoid the use of poison to keep the rodent population in check and visit the Environment & Open Space Committee's Pesticide Free Woodside section for additional resources!
