Adult Calligraphy Workshop

About

This is a workshop designed to introduce people to the beautiful art of lettering! You will be practicing pointed pen calligraphy and using sumi ink. No previous art or handwriting skills are needed. You will learn the basic strokes and how to combine them to form and connect letters. There will be instruction, guided practice and time at the end for you to create your own postcards with your new skills. Since calligraphy is an art, it takes time so you will be encouraged to continue at home to refine those skills. All supplies are provided and you will be able to keep anything you create in class. The ink may not wash out of clothes easily so please wear dark clothes or something you don’t mind getting messy as spills do happen. Registration is required. About Corinne Hi I'm Corinne! I'm a Boston-based high school teacher and calligrapher. Bringing me endless joy are my family, my dog, travel, nature and creativity. My most influential art teacher- my grandfather, introduced me to calligraphy and drawing while we worked on art together for hours when I was young. That mindful process always holds a place in my heart. I didn't think I could progress in this art but with perseverance and endurance, It all came together. The beautiful thing about art is that it shows up as messy and chaotic but with practice, elegance flows across the page like many things in life. I still show up messy at times! We grow through this process. Some of my other interests are improv, running, coaching special olympics, camping and traveling. Looking forward to connecting with you soon! Please note: When someone does not show up for a program they are registered for, they are taking away an opportunity for another member of the community. Patrons who are registered for an event they cannot attend are asked to cancel their registration at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to show up for programs two (2) times without notice will be grounds for being waitlisted for 30 days. Patrons who arrive 5 minutes or more after the program start time will be considered no-shows. They may be denied access after that time, and their spot may be given away to people on the waiting list. This program is sponsored by the Woburn Public Library Foundation.
