Join this fall for a three-part book discussion series exploring love, ambition, and social expectations through classic literature. This limited-run series invites readers to examine how relationships and class shape personal choices. We’ll meet monthly from August through November on the third Wednesday of the month for welcoming and engaging conversations. Books will be provided . Attendance at each discussion meeting is required in order to receive the next book in the series. Join us for our discussion of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey . Together we’ll explore the novel’s playful satire of gothic literature, its sharp observations on society and reading culture, and the charming, often comical journey of Catherine Morland as she navigates friendship, imagination, and first love. During this meeting, participants will receive our next featured novel, Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South . A powerful exploration of class tension, industrialization, and shifting social values, the novel follows Margaret Hale as she confronts the contrasts between England’s rural South and the bustling, conflict-laden North, along with the complex and evolving relationship she forms with mill owner John Thornton. The book club will meet at the North Meadow Picnic Tables at Holbrook Palmer Park.
