About

ABOUT STORYTIME STUDIO Storytime Studio is a captivating blend of play, educator-led read-alouds, and art exploration designed for kids from birth to age 6 and their caregivers. Every Wednesday morning at 10 and 11 AM, visitors are welcomed into our studio to enjoy a special Storytime adventure. Storytime Studio has limited capacity. Entry is first-come, first-served. THIS WEEK We’ll be joined by Inspired Child teaching artist Mama Sylvia, who specializes in West African dance and music, for an interactive read-aloud that will get everyone on their feet celebrating the city we call home: Washington, DC! Then we’ll head into the revitalized Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden to visit Lauren Halsey’s monumental column keepers of the krown (antoinette grace halsey) (2024), which honors the artist’s hometown of South Central Los Angeles and her grandmother. Then, inspired by Halsey, we’ll make our own monuments to people and places that are important to us. Featured book: A to Z: The Real DC by the teen authors of Reach Incorporated Inspired Child is an award-winning nonprofit organization that provides early childhood arts education to underresourced communities in the District of Columbia. Its mission activates a love of learning and literacy through programs for children ages birth to 5, their families, and their caregivers and educators. A 501(c)(3), Inspired Child is a program of Dumbarton Arts & Education. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Storytime Studio is a one-hour experience. There are two Storytime sessions each Wednesday, with entry times at 10 and 11 AM. Participation for each adult and child is limited to one hour. No pre-registration is required. Entry to Storytime Studio is first-come, first-served. Once the 10 AM session reaches capacity, you’ll be given the option to return for entry to the 11 AM session. Storytime Studio has limited capacity. We’ll pause further entry when both sessions reach full capacity to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Due to limited capacity during this public drop-in program, school, youth, and other large groups of eight or more (adults and children) are encouraged to reserve a group program by contacting HMSGEducation@si.edu . Everyone is welcome. Nursing caregivers are welcome. If there are services or accommodations that can improve your experience (e.g., ASL interpretation, live captioning, etc.), please contact HMSGEducation@si.edu .
