Thursday Classic Mystery Book Club
About
For the August meeting, the group will read "The Greek Coffin Mystery" by Ellery Queen. Join the discussion on Thursday, October 15 at 2 p.m. in the Board Room, Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Ave. Registration is not required to attend the meeting. Book summary: A missing will, a mysterious visitor, a wrong-color necktie, a foreign agent, a stolen painting, and a dead body in a place where it certainly doesn’t belong! Young Ellery Queen is baffled for a while by the slew of clues and the parade of suspects, but eventually he sorts it all out and demonstrates the impeccable logic of his deductions in his usual elegant manner. As the novel was published in 1932, the writing is a bit old-fashioned, but the mystery is guaranteed to keep readers on their toes. Meetings are held in person on the third Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. at Civic Center Library Board Room. Each month, the club selects and reads a mystery novel published before 1960 by Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, Rex Stout, John Dickson Carr, Erle Stanley Gardner, Ngaio Marsh, Dashiell Hammett, Ellery Queen, and other well-known authors.
