Create a beautiful piece of art inspired by the molas of the Guna people of Panamá and Colombia. Molas are intricately designed, hand-stitched pieces of fabric that take up to 80 hours to make! Some molas depict animals, legends, or even famous characters like Minnie Mouse! Molas, and all expressions of Indigenous identity, were banned in Panamá in 1919. During the Guna Revolution of 1925, the Guna people reclaimed their right to practice their culture. Molas remain an important symbol of Guna identity and perseverance and continue to be worn today. We'll use paper, yarn, and glue to make ours.
