The GreenRoots Collective: Environmental Technology Workshops

Sunday, November 8 · 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM · Seven Trees, 2nd Floor, Teen Room., San Jose

About

Discover how science and engineering can be used to understand and solve real environmental challenges. In this hands-on GreenRoots Collective workshop series, students will explore sustainability through interactive experiments, engineering challenges, collaborative problem-solving, and community-focused projects. Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important part of the world students are growing up in. Understanding how the environment works, and how everyday decisions, technology, and engineering can help protect it, gives young learners the tools to think critically about real-world problems and envision better solutions for the future. Rather than simply learning environmental concepts, students will put them into practice. Each workshop introduces a scientific idea, gives students the opportunity to investigate it through a hands-on activity, and challenges them to apply what they learn to a practical solution. Students will also contribute to community projects that connect their learning to meaningful action beyond the classroom. Through the program, participants will strengthen scientific reasoning, engineering design, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while developing a deeper understanding of sustainability and how STEM can be used to create positive change. Series Topics: 1. Floodproof! The Science & Engineering of El Niño - November 8 2. Cooler Cities: Engineering Solutions to Urban Heat - November 20 3.
