Locating the Islamic Archive: Practicum at the Green Library

Friday, October 23 · 1:30 PM – 3 PM · Green Library, Bing Wing, 459 Lasuen Mall, Stanford, CA 94305 · Palo Alto

About

The Stanford Humanities Workshop, “What is the Islamic Archive?” is holding a practicum at the Green Library's Special Collections, which will consist of a roundtable joined by Ryan Perkins (Curator, South Asian and Islamic Studies), Kioumars Ghereghlou (Curator, Middle East Collections), and Benjamin Albritton (Curator, Rare Books and Early Manuscripts Collections). Each curator will introduce a manuscript or object from the collection: its characteristic features, its provenance, how it entered Stanford's holdings, how it relates to the larger collection, and how it has been preserved and cataloged. With the objects physically present, we will also ask what the material object can teach us that a catalog entry or digitized version might not. Location: Barchas Room, Special Collections, 2nd floor Bing Wing, Green Library Please RSVP here: RSVP
