Volunteer with Pleasanton Reads! Serving Adult Learners of English in the Tri-Valley: Looking to make a positive difference in your community? Partner with an adult learner of English to practice English reading, writing and conversation skills. Experience the rewards of becoming a literacy volunteer: Personal Growth New Skills Friendship Community Connections Pleasanton Library's Adult Literacy Program will train you to help adults improve their English skills. The library supplies tutoring materials and meeting space at no cost to participants. Whether you have a little or a lot of time to give, volunteer opportunities are flexible enough to suit most schedules. Volunteer Roles: serve as one-on-one or small group tutor in person or virtually lead or help with weekly English Conversation Practice Groups host Book Clubs for English Learners assist learners prepare for standardized tests: US citizenship, HiSET, or GED We welcome native English speakers and multi-lingual volunteers aged 18+. Required for all Volunteers: Fluency in American English Patience Ability to work with people from various backgrounds Familiarity with American culture Aged 18 or over Helpful skills: Working knowledge of common technology: internet-based resources, apps, video conferencing software. Prior teaching or tutoring experience is useful but not required. Time Commitment: Tutors meet with students once weekly for 90 minutes plus prep time.
