Historical Walking Tour of Belmont

Step back in time and walk through Belmont’s illustrious and sometimes scandalous past on a guided history tour on Sunday, October 18, at 2:30 p.m. The tour will begin at the Twin Pines Senior Center, 20 Twin Pines Lane, and will wind through Twin Pines Park and the downtown neighborhood before heading to the train station. From the train platform, at what was once considered the Hub of the Peninsula, volunteer historian Chuck Cotten will point out landmarks of Belmont’s oldest neighborhood and share stories from the city’s last century, including tales of speakeasies and gangsters, flower farms and military outposts, rock stars and Olympians. Prepare to be entertained and surprised! The tour will pause at historic Jolly’s Old Fashioned Teas Cream to celebrate Belmont’s 100th birthday with ice cream and a screening of the silent movie “Pop Tuttle the Fire Chief”, filmed in the neighborhood in 1923.
