The luminous sound of the flute meets the richness of the harp in An Afternoon of Flute and Harp, presented by the Concerts on the Corner Music Series on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 3:00 PM at First Congregational Church of San Jose. Harpist Renée Qin and flutist Isaac Chuang come together for a program highlighting the distinctive colors and expressive range of the flute and harp. Moving effortlessly between delicacy, brilliance, and sweeping lyricism, the two instruments have inspired music ranging from refined elegance to the atmospheric colors of French impressionism and the rhythmic intensity of Argentine tango. The program will feature works by Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Albert Zabel, Astor Piazzolla, François Borne, and more. Together, the selections trace a wide expressive arc, from graceful classical lines and shimmering impressionistic textures to operatic virtuosity and the dramatic pulse of tango. Canadian harpist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist Renée Qin has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at Carnegie Hall, Bing Concert Hall, and the Curtis Institute of Music’s Field Concert Hall, with additional performances across the United States and Canada. Named one of CBC Music’s “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30” in 2024, she performs both traditional repertoire and contemporary works, including concertos by Handel and Mozart as well as new music written for her by contemporary composers. Her recent international appearances include performances at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht and One Harp World in Toronto. Qin holds an Artist Diploma from OAcademy and earned a B.A. with Distinction and Honors in Music and Economics from Stanford University. For this Concerts on the Corner appearance, Qin is joined by flutist Isaac Chuang in a program that reveals both the intimacy and rich tonal range of the flute and harp. Familiar and lesser-known works come together in the resonant setting of First Congregational Church of San Jose.Harmonia California, the talented Bay Area chamber orchestra, returns to the First Congregational Church of San Jose, under the direction of Kristin Link on March 15 12 at 3 PM. The concert will include world premiere, Annabelle's Cello by Hebert; Serenade No. 3, by Fuchs; Lullaby, by Gershwin; Little Suite for Strings, by Nielsen; Intermezzo, by Granados; and the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, by Bach. This concert is part of First Congregational Church’s community concert series, Concerts on the Corner. The concert series will bring a variety of musical performances to the Campbell and Willow Glen communities throughout the year.
