Art Against Brutality: Community and Collaborative Art Projects with Survivors of Political Violence

We are honored to welcome Argentinian artist and human rights activist Claudia Bernardi back to campus. She was last here in 2024 as the recipient of the Justice Brandeis Practitioner-in-Residence Award. Please join us as Claudia Bernardi introduces us to her first book, "Art Against Brutality," which documents her decades of collaborative work with communities that have experienced state violence, sexual violence, and/or displacement, beginning with her founding of “Walls of Hope” in El Salvador in 2005, and highlights her ethical approach to community engagement worldwide. Bernardi is an installation artist, painter, and printmaker whose artwork reflects the impacts of war and its legacies. She is Emerita Professor at the California College of the Arts.
