Etegami (絵手紙) Painting: The Art of Joyful Imperfection

Sunday, November 22 · 1 PM – 3 PM · Millbrae Library, Makerspace, Millbrae

About

Discover Etegami (絵手紙), the beloved Japanese folk art of creating and gifting hand-painted postcards. Here, imperfection isn’t just allowed—it’s the goal! Join certified Etegami instructors Amy and Andy for a hands-on, two-hour introduction to this rich, liberating world of Japanese hand-painted picture-letters. You’ll learn to use traditional sumi ink and gansai watercolors to capture seasonal objects on washi paper, pairing bold ink lines and bright colors with simple, heartfelt messages. Etegami is a restorative, mindful practice designed for anyone looking to slow down and enjoy a welcoming, creative space. Experience a charming side of Japanese art and leave with several finished pieces of unique postcard art ready to brighten someone's day. All skill levels welcome, especially beginners. Intended for adults and seniors. All materials provided! Due to high demand, we ask that community members sign up for a single occurrence of this series so that as many community members as possible can participate in this experience. Registration is required to attend. Class is limited to 20 spots (10 for in-person registration and 10 for online registration). In-person registration begins at the Millbrae Library on Monday, October 26, at 10:00 AM. Patrons may register themselves and up to one other person. Online registration begins Sunday, November 1, at 6:00 PM.
