Film Screening: "One Sings, the Other Doesn't"

Join us for a screening of Agnès Varda's beloved feminist classic "One Sings, the Other Doesn't" (1977), a joyful celebration of friendship, love, motherhood, and the freedom to define one's own life. The film has been a lasting source of inspiration for Jenna Gribbon, who has said, "Agnès Varda is probably my biggest influence outside of painting." Like Varda, Gribbon finds beauty in everyday relationships, revealing the quiet intimacy, tenderness, and complexity of shared lives. Presented in conjunction with "Jenna Gribbon: Entwined," the screening will be introduced by Brandeis Professor Sophia Niehaus. Following the film, Niehaus will be joined by "Entwined" co-curator Chad Sirois for a conversation exploring the rich connections between Varda's groundbreaking cinema and Gribbon's paintings, inviting audiences to discover how two visionary artists reimagine family, intimacy, caregiving, and the transformative power of love.
