Bay Bird Mornings: Crab Cove
About
CROWN MEMORIAL STATE BEACH (DOUG SIDEN VISITOR CENTER AT CRAB COVE): It may seem cool or even cold outside here by the Bay, but it’s neither icy nor snowy, as are some other parts of the continent. The birds who come to spend time here these days have all brought nice homemade down jackets, and they thrive on the Bay’s waters and shores with their bony legs and skinny or webbed toes. They probe, sift, snatch, and chisel with their finely crafted bills, finding food in the water, sand and mud, and among the rocks and reeds. We welcome them back to their favorite Bay shores each year, some arriving as early as July, and some as late as October and November. Join your local fellow nature lovers in exploring the diversity of our feathered friends. Bring binoculars if you have them. High-quality binoculars will also be available at each outing for those wishing to borrow. Beginners are welcome! Heavy rain cancels. Ages 6 years and up. Register for as many of the outings as you like, it’s FREE. For information, call 510-544-3187. MAP: Crown Memorial State Beach (Doug Siden Visitor Center at Crab Cove)
