Mixed Media Workshop: Folk Art Collage
About
Collage is often associated with magazines and glue but can refer to any work of art made from an assemblage of materials and subjects. In this workshop, we will explore what it means to collage in the traditional sense, as well as with paint and other fine arts materials, to create works inspired by folk art imagery. Students will create a multimedia piece that tells a story or communicates a theme through visuals and text. We will discuss the history of folk art imagery and the medium of collage, work in our sketchbooks to brainstorm ideas, and utilize mediums including oil, gouache, acrylic paper, pencil, and foil to create our final works. Materials provided. Students are encouraged to bring in their favorite materials as well to include in their project.
