Design New Learning Experiences with NotebookLM

Wednesday, October 21 · 3 PM – 4 PM · San Jose State events

About

You'll get hands-on time with NotebookLM, experiencing firsthand how features like Audio Overview can function as an entry point into a difficult text rather than a replacement for it. By the end of the session, you'll walk away with a concrete framework for designing a "before–during–after" reading activity that uses AI intentionally — helping students build genuine reading skills while taking advantage of what these tools do well. This workshop is designed for faculty. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to: Distinguish between scaffolding and shortcut uses of AI reading tools in your own course designGenerate and customize a NotebookLM Audio Overview from your own course materialsDesign a reading activity sequence that uses AI as a bridge into the text, not a substitute for itWalk away with at least one ready-to-use activity for an upcoming course unit
