However, accessibility barriers and aging infrastructure mean that nearly 40 percent of this “palace for the people” is no longer accessible to the public. Now, with a philanthropic investment through the Boston Public Library Fund, the Library is in a comprehensive planning process to prepare the McKim Building for its next chapter. Join us for the next Library People conversation with Beth Prindle , the BPL’s Director of Research & Special Collections, and Paula Sakey , Executive Director of the Boston Public Library Fund. Beth will share information from a recently completed yearlong study, shaped by input from scores of staff and stakeholders, that takes a holistic view of the entire Central Library to guide future improvements to McKim’s services, spaces, and collections. These findings have laid the foundation for a renovation that will transform the public’s experience of McKim for generations to come.
