Brain Bloom: STEAM Club
About
Hands-on science and art program at the Village Square Branch Library for students in grades 1-6. Brain Bloom explores the human body, nature, and the environment through engaging STEAM activities in a supportive and sensory-friendly setting. Open to all children and designed to be especially welcoming for neurodiverse learners. 8/29 - Straw Blow Painting: Explore how breathing works through using straws to blow watercolor paint across paper, creating creative shapes! The hands-on activity turns each child’s breath into a colorful piece of art. 9/5 - Leaf Rubbing: Discover patterns in nature, genetics, and DNA through rubbing crayons over leaves to reveal their unique vein patterns on your paper. Then add patterns of your own, making a fascinating mix of nature and imagination. 9/12 - Emotion Masks : Learn how our brains create facial expressions and emotions, and how our neurons send messages to the rest of our body. You will then design a paper plate mask to express an emotion of your own using collage and scrapbooking techniques. 9/19 - Coffee Filter Flowers: Explore capillary action - how plants absorb water and carry it up through their stems - by coloring and water-dying coffee filters and transforming them into handmade flowers. Watch as the colors bloom right before your eyes! ADA Accommodation Requests
