We will analyze the ideological divisions within Spain, including tensions among republicans, nationalists, and regional movements, while situating the war within both the unresolved conflicts surrounding Spain's uneven development and broader international struggles over ideology. Attention is given to foreign intervention, transnational solidarity movements, the war's role as a precursor to World War II, and the material conditions that primed different parts of the country to adopt varying radical ideologies.
