Intro to Meditation
About
Meditation, it’s not what you think! Explore a variety of seated meditation techniques using visualizations and concentration objects. Each month, Mary Beth Volker introduces a different meditation technique with a brief lesson exploring its history, cultural roots, and practical benefits. You'll then be guided through a meditation using that month's featured practice. Attendees will be seated, either in chairs or on the floor. Practices will include various methods, including visualizations and objects of meditation, not just breath work. After the meditation, you'll have time to reflect through journaling or an optional conversation with a partner, helping you deepen your experience and carry the benefits into your daily life. While each session stands on its own, attending regularly allows you to explore a variety of meditation techniques and build a consistent practice over time. Whether you're completely new to meditation or looking to refresh your practice, you're welcome to join us at any session. What to bring: Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. A water filling station is available in the library near the restrooms. Consider bringing a yoga block or cushion for seated meditation practices (optional). If you'd like to capture your thoughts after the meditation, consider bringing a notebook and pen for journaling (optional).
