Introduction to Brooch Mechanisms

In this intermediate workshop, students will design and fabricate an original brooch from brass or copper, learning the essential mechanisms that bring wearable sculpture to life. From pin stems and catch assemblies to spring steel mechanisms, students will develop a deeper understanding of how form and function work together in jewelry design. The highlight of this class is designing a custom mechanism that reflects and reinforces the aesthetic of the brooch itself - making the functional element part of the art.
