Professional Development Workshop: So Many Ideas: How a fresh look at organization can help you build the structure you crave

Wednesday, October 28 · 12 PM – 1 PM · Medford/Somerville campus

About

Cognitive overwhelm is a common experience that can lead you down rabbit holes or stop you dead in your tracks. You may have tried templates and other organizers, but they often don't feel like they're what you need. This presentation offers a different approach to getting organized, showing that organization is a learnable skill, built on a critical, often overlooked organizational concept: the organizing principle. Come to learn how this conceptual linchpin works, and how naming it could change the way you approach everything from your literature review to your manuscripts. Participants will be able to: Recognize information overload as the result of a missing and learnable organizational concept (i.e., the Method of Organization) rather than a personal failing Recognize the five key components of a complete organizational structure Understand that both top-down and bottom-up approaches to organization are valid See the Method of Organization at work in relatable academic situations and consider how it might apply to their own.
