About

In celebration of Filipino American History Month, Hercules Library is proud to present Giyera: The Musical , an original musical composed, written and directed by Hercules' very own Henry Torres, of Music Repertoire. Originally created 20 years ago for Philippine American youth in the Bay Area to commemorate Filipino American History Month, Giyera tells the powerful story of a small Philippine town on the eve of World War II. As the people of Santa Maria prepare for their annual fiesta and celebrate a young couple’s upcoming wedding, they remain unaware of the Japanese invasion that will soon change their lives forever. Through a story of love, war, and destiny, Giyera follows the people of Santa Maria through the Japanese occupation and ultimately to the liberation of the Philippines. Join us for this moving musical jouney through Filipino history, heritage, and the stories that continue to connect generations.
